While homelessness is a national experience, it is first and foremost a local issue. It destabilizes families and communities in every state and region. But the ways families experience homelessness varies widely state by state, neighborhood by neighborhood and even school to school.

These families share a need for more than a home; they need help to address the underlying reasons they became homeless in the first place, including underemployment, lack of education and healthcare access, rent burden, and family violence. To fully understand child and family homelessness, we must gain insight from the lessons learned and work being done in communities across the country.
