Among the people requesting emergency food assistance:

  • 9% are homeless
  • 21% are elderly
  • 43% are employed
  • 58% are in families

83% of cities surveyed reported that requests for emergency food assistance increased over the past year.

In all cities surveyed, emergency kitchens and food pantries had to reduce the quantity of food offered.

In two-thirds of the cities, facilities had to turn people away due to lack of resources.
